Logbook Try the demo

Your pupils ask for a lesson.
You tap approve.
The app does the rest.

Booking software for UK driving instructors, built around the way you already work — nobody gets into your diary without you saying yes.

Your name on it. Your database. Your domain.
One payment, and it's yours to run.
The instructor's home screen: the next lesson with its pickup address, four requests waiting, and today's lessons marked paid or unpaid.

Sound familiar?

Most instructors run a business on a paper book and three chat apps.

  • Booking texts at eleven at night, across WhatsApp, Facebook and your actual phone.
  • Two pupils, one slot — because the only complete copy of the diary is in your head.
  • "How many hours have I got left?" and you're doing sums at the side of the road.
  • Chasing money you're fairly sure you're owed, without wanting to seem like you're chasing.
  • A cancellation two hours before, and no policy to point at that isn't just you sounding annoyed.

Ordinary booking software doesn't fix this, because it's built for salons and gyms — anyone can book themselves in, and none of it understands a block of ten hours paid up front. Which is how you actually sell lessons.

How it works

Three steps, and one of them is you tapping a button.

They ask

Your pupil opens the app, picks a length and taps a free time. They only ever see times that genuinely work — nothing that clashes, nothing too short notice, nothing too far ahead.

The slot holds

That time is held so nobody else can take it while you make your mind up. If you don't answer, it lets go on its own and frees up. You choose how long that is.

You approve

One tap on your phone. The lesson lands in your diary, the pupil is told, and the hours come off their balance automatically.

A pupil never books straight into your diary. It's still your diary.

Have a go

This is the real app. Press things.

Not a video, not screenshots. The actual app, running here, with made-up pupils. Nothing you do can break anything.

Same app. Whose driving school is it today?

Three invented driving schools, switched live — name, logo and colours. Nothing is rebuilt and nothing reloads. That is the same two-tap change you'd make once, at setup, with your own name on it.

The thirty-second version

  1. Sign in as a pupil Tap I'm a student. You'll get the same short welcome card your own pupils get — close it, then pick 1 hr, pick a day, tap a time, and say where you want picking up. You'll see "request sent".
  2. Become the instructor Hit Switch in the yellow bar at the top. Tap Requests — it's carrying a badge now. The one you just sent is in the list, with the rest of that day laid out beside it so you can see what it would clash with. Tap Accept.
  3. Switch back and look at the hours The lesson is confirmed, and the hours remaining have gone down on their own. Nobody did any sums.

If you've got another minute

  1. Write a lesson note As the instructor: Students → Amelia → type in her notes and save. Switch to the pupil and it's there, read-only. You decide whether pupils see notes at all.
  2. Change one of your own rules Instructor → More → Settings. Drop the cancellation cutoff from 48 hours to 24 and save. Switch to the pupil: a lesson they couldn't cancel a minute ago, they now can. It's a live rule, not a label.
  3. Look at it from the pupil's side Pupil → Account → scroll to Help & your data. The privacy notice, the terms, a download of everything held on them, and a form to ask for it changed or deleted — all built in, all in plain English. In the demo those legal details read "EXAMPLE — NOT A REAL REGISTRATION", because the app flatly refuses to show a pupil a made-up one. Yours won't go live until your real details are in it.

What you're looking at

Everything in here is made up — the pupils, the lessons, the prices, the driving schools. It runs in your browser and saves nothing, so refreshing the page puts it all back.

Both sides are unlocked so you can see the whole thing. The real one isn't like that: pupils only get in if you invite them, and you only ever see the instructor's side.

What's in it

Everything you'd otherwise keep in your head.

Your day

  • It opens on where you're going next — the lesson, the pickup address, and a directions link straight to it.
  • A Requests tab carrying a badge, so you can see there's something waiting without going looking. Accept or decline, with the rest of that day shown beside each one so you can see what it'd clash with.
  • A nudge to say how the last few lessons went, before you've forgotten.
  • A seven-day diary, colour-coded — amber waiting, blue booked. Empty days say "free", which is rather the point of them.

Your pupils

  • The full list, each with hours left on the front of it. Two hours or fewer turns red.
  • Tap through for contact details, their package, and a notes box you type into after a lesson.
  • Notes are yours. Pupils see them only if you switch that on.

Your money

  • Prepaid hours come off by themselves as lessons are confirmed and taught. Nobody does sums.
  • A Paid / Unpaid pill on each lesson that you tap, and a running count of how many are still to pay for — so you know who owes you without going through your bank statement.
  • Low balances flag red on the pupil list, so the top-up conversation happens before someone runs out two weeks before their test.

Your pupils' side

  • Book — pick a length, pick from times that actually work.
  • My lessons — what's coming, what's been. They can cancel themselves, but only outside your notice window. Inside it, they get your number and are told to ring you.
  • My account — one big number for hours left, their details, and their notification settings.

Your rules

You change how it behaves. Not us.

Nearly every rule in the app sits on one Settings screen, and it's yours to change. No email to a developer, no waiting, no "that'll be an update in the next release".

How late they can cancel

48 hours to start with. Make it 24 if that's how you work. Make it 72.

How long a request holds

Three days by default. After that it lets the slot go rather than sitting there blocking your diary.

How far ahead they can book

And how close to the day. Twelve hours' notice as standard, two months of diary open.

When reminders go out

A day before, as standard. Move it.

Your business details

Name, number, email, the area you cover. Changed in ten seconds, live straight away.

What's switched on at all

Notifications, the TikTok button, whether pupils can read their lesson notes. Off is a perfectly good answer.

Don't take our word for it — go and change the cancellation cutoff in the demo, then look at what a pupil can do.

The whole point

You're not renting it.

Every other instructor app rents you a room in someone else's building. Your pupils live in their database, filed next to pupils from a thousand other schools. Your branded app is still their app with your logo on the front. If they put the price up, you pay it. If they get bought, you find out by email.

This isn't that. You get your own setup, and the code that runs it.

Your own addressIt lives at your own domain — yourdrivingschool.co.uk — not on a page inside somebody's product.
Your own databaseNobody else's pupils are in it. Not filtered out, not hidden. Not there.
Your own accountsThe hosting and everything it runs on is set up in your name, and you hold the logins. Not ours, with you as a guest.
The full source codeHanded over on day one and yours to keep, permanently. Change it, or pay any developer to. You never need our permission.

There's no monthly bill because there's nothing left to keep paying for. No account of ours for you to be locked out of. No price rise we can decide on one morning. Nothing we can switch off.

To be precise about it, because it matters: the software is licensed to you permanently and irrevocably, and that licence can't be withdrawn. It isn't open source, and it isn't ours to take back. Everything the app runs on — your domain, your database, your accounts, your pupils' details, and anything you change — is yours outright.

And the fair question: what if you disappear?

Then you still have everything. The app carries on running — it's on your hosting, at your domain, with your pupils' details in a database in your name. Nothing phones home to us. Nothing stops working because we did.

What you'd lose is us fixing things. And one day something will need changing, because things always do. When that day comes you hand the code to any web developer and they pick it up from where we left it — it's built with ordinary, widely-used tools, and it's documented. You'd be looking for a new mechanic, not a new car.

We'd rather give you an honest answer to that than dodge it. Have a look at what the other apps say about it — as far as we can find, not one of them says anything at all.

Placeholder — replace or delete before this link goes to anyone

One sentence from the instructor already using it, his name, his school, and a photo.

This is the one thing on this page that can't be written — it has to be said by someone who paid for it.

Getting it on your phone

It installs from a link. There's no app store involved.

You open a link, and it goes on your home screen with your logo on it. It opens full-screen like anything else on your phone. Same on an iPhone or an Android — there's one of it, not two.

Your pupils don't download anything either. They get a link from you, and that's the whole install.

This is deliberate, not a shortcut. Going through the app stores would mean review queues, a 30% cut of anything sold through it, and waiting for somebody's permission every time a small thing needs fixing. None of that would make your diary work better.

What that means in practice

  • A fix can go out the afternoon it's found.
  • No "please update the app" to twenty pupils.
  • Nothing to find in a search — your pupils reach it from your link, and only from your link.
  • It works in a browser too, if someone would rather not install it.

Telling pupils things

Two kinds of message, kept properly apart.

Lesson messages

Confirmations, declines, cancellations, a reminder before the lesson. Part of the service, always on, and nobody has to agree to anything to get them — they're about the lesson they booked.

Everything else

Just posted on TikTok? Got a gap next week? There's a button. You drop in the link and it goes out — but only to pupils who ticked the box, and any of them can untick it from their own account whenever they like.

That split is a legal requirement, and most instructors are quietly on the wrong side of it — a WhatsApp broadcast list makes no distinction between "your lesson's at two" and "half price this month". Here they're separate things, and the app keeps the record of who agreed to what. It also means the marketing that does go out is going to people who actually want it.

What it costs

You pay once. There is no monthly anything.

The going rate for instructor software is £15–26 a month, which is £180–£310 a year, every year, for as long as you're teaching. This is a one-off.

More than one instructor?

Teamfrom £995 2–4 instructors. Separate apps at a bundle price — one each, own diary, own pupils. There is no shared school-wide diary. For a lot of small schools that's fine; it needs saying out loud first.
Schoolfrom £1,995 5–10 instructors. Needs work that isn't built yet, so it starts with a conversation about what you actually run.
11 or moreLet's talk Same again, at a bigger scale. Nothing to buy off a page.

Every one of these starts with a call anyway — we'd rather tell you it won't fit than sell you something that doesn't.

Add-ons, if you want them

Add-onOne-offWhat it is
Take payments£155 Pupils pay for a block of hours in the app. The money goes straight into your account — it never touches ours. We'll set you up with Direct Debit alongside cards: on a £750 block of hours, Direct Debit costs you £4.00 against £11.45 on a card. Over about thirty blocks a year that's roughly £220 you keep, so it has paid for itself well inside the first year.
Text reminders£115 Reminders by text as well as email. You open your own account with the text provider and buy your own credits, so there's no bill from us and no markup. UK texts run 3–6p; a thirty-pupil diary is about £10–16 a month, on your bill.

Neither is in the standard build. Both are extra work, priced once, and never a subscription.

What it costs you to run: about £12 a year for your domain. That's the whole list. Nothing to us, ever. Not hosting, not per-pupil, not a support plan. If you take the text add-on you'll also pay your text provider directly, and you'll see exactly what for.

2
We take on two new instructors a month. That's the limit. Setting one of these up properly takes real hours, and every one of them is a business that has to keep running on a Monday morning. We'd rather answer your email the same day for the next five years than sign up forty of you and be no use to any of you.

Straight answers

The things people ask.

Is this finished? Can I buy it today?

Not today, and we're not going to pretend otherwise — there's no buy button on this page for a reason.

What you clicked through above is the real app, and the whole of the front of it is done. What we're finishing now is the part underneath that saves everything to your own database, which is exactly the part that has to be right before anyone's pupils go into it.

So the call isn't a sales call. It's us finding out how you run your diary, and telling you honestly when we could have yours ready.

Can my pupils pay by card in the app?

Not in the standard build. Out of the box you tap a pupil as paid or unpaid, and the money is settled between you and them however you already do it.

If you want them paying in the app, that's the £155 add-on — and the money goes straight into your account, not through us.

Does it text my pupils?

By email as standard, and on their phone if they've allowed notifications. Texts are the £115 add-on, and you buy your own credits so there's no markup and nothing monthly from us.

Worth knowing: the cheapest instructor app on the market is email-only and has been for years, with a thousand-odd instructors on it. Texts are nice. They're not the thing that fixes your diary.

Is it on the App Store?

No, and that's on purpose. It installs from a link straight onto your home screen, on iPhone or Android. No store listing, no review queue, no 30% cut, and a fix can go out the same day rather than whenever somebody approves it.

Can it run a school with five instructors?

Not yet as one shared diary — and we'd rather say so than take the money. Today each instructor would have their own app, their own diary and their own pupils, which suits some small schools perfectly well and doesn't suit others at all.

If you're running a proper school, ring us and we'll tell you straight whether it's worth your time yet.

What happens if you disappear?

You keep everything. It's running on your hosting, at your domain, on a database in your name, and none of it checks in with us. It doesn't stop.

What stops is us fixing things. At that point you hand the source code — which you already have, and can go on using for good — to any web developer, and they carry on. It's built with ordinary tools that thousands of developers already use, and it's documented.

What if I lose it all? Is there a backup?

Every night a copy of your diary and your pupil list is sent to your own Google Drive or your own inbox. It's a plain file you can open, and it's in a place we have no access to.

That's deliberate. A backup that only exists inside the thing you're backing up isn't a backup.

What happens when I want something changed?

If it's broken, we fix it and you pay nothing — bug fixes are free for life, and because everyone runs the same code, a fix for one of you is a fix for all of you.

If it's new work, it's £60 an hour and we tell you the number before we start, not after.

But most of what people want changed isn't code at all — it's your cancellation window, your notice period, your reminder timing. Those are yours to change, on your Settings screen, and they cost nothing.

Do I have to move all my pupils across myself?

On Standard, yes — and it's not much, most instructors have thirty to forty and it's a name, a number and how many hours they've got left.

On Premium we do it. Spreadsheet, WhatsApp, or photographs of a paper diary — whatever state it's in. That's most of what the extra £300 is for, because it's the bit people dread and the reason software gets bought and never set up.

What about my pupils' data? Most of them are 17.

It sits in a database in your name that nobody else's school shares. Pupils can only get in if you invite them. They can download everything you hold on them from their own account screen, and the marketing they can turn off is separate from the lesson messages they can't.

The legal side has been gone through properly and it's built in rather than bolted on — including the app refusing to show a privacy notice at all until your real details are in it, so it can't ever show a pupil something made up.

Go and press things first.

Then, if it looks like it'd fit the way you work, book fifteen minutes and we'll walk you through what setting yours up would actually involve. No slides.
